"Golden Glow": Watercolor Greeting Card

This yellow rose glows as if lit from within, warm, golden and full of light. It's the kind of card that brightens someone's day before they even read what you wrote.

The story behind the painting
In Portland, Oregon, there's a botanical garden filled with thousands of rose varieties. Walking through it, I was in awe of all the colors and shapes around me. One yellow rose stopped me in my tracks, so I photographed it and brought that moment home to my studio.

I painted it slowly in many transparent layers of watercolor, deepening the golden tones one wash at a time until the petals seemed to hold the sun. Each card is a reproduction of that original painting.

Yellow roses have long stood for friendship, joy and warm wishes. That makes this card a natural choice for telling someone you're glad they're in your life.
