My painting of a single purple iris symbolizes a woman—standing tall, strong, bold, and bright, full of light and life. I chose watercolors for this piece because of the fluidity and subtlety the medium allows, helping to convey the delicate yet powerful nature of the iris.
Each brushstroke was intentional, as I carefully built up layers of color to highlight the depth and richness of the purple petals. I used light washes to create softness, allowing the flower’s natural beauty to shine through, while adding more intense shades to represent the boldness and strength that the purple iris embodies. The blending of colors brings a sense of movement and vitality, just as a woman moves through life with a balance of softness and confidence.
The process of painting this single purple iris was as much about honoring the flower’s elegance as it was about reflecting the strength of women who stand firm in their power. It was a meditative journey of layering, mixing, and blending, bringing the iris to life with every stroke. The result is a beautiful, radiant piece that celebrates the light, strength, and beauty of both nature and women alike.
