My inspiration for this painting is a photograph I took of hydrangeas in my backyard.
My studio space is kind of unusual, I have two tables I use one for my iMac and “business”
and I have moved the other table to face the window where I can paint and in the afternoon is filled with sunlight.
I started with a very detailed sketch using a light pencil. Then I use thin washes with the lightest hues, gradually building layers to create depth and dimension. I love the transparency and fluidity of watercolors, allowing colors to blend and mingle on the paper in a way that is almost magical. I let each layer dry completely before the next one is applied, and carefully painting the intricate details. It’s a meditative process that teaches me to slow down and savor each brushstroke.
I step back multiple times and assess my work. It’s essential to view the artwork from a distance to see how all the elements come together.
